All mom daily routines are different, whether they are a morning people, mid-day people or a night owls. Personally, I am a morning person. I love to get a bulk of my duties done early so that night time can be mommy time (let’s be honest – that is rare). I have mentioned before that I am a new mom and even though the transition has been smoother than expected, it’s still an incredibly surreal change. I am 28 years old and my baby boy is 8 months now. Take a sneak peak into how I have adjusted into a morning routine with my silly little human. It may not be perfect, but it works for us and I am enjoying the ride. ♥
RISE AND SHINE
6:30 - 7:30 AM
My child has been nice enough to pick the hour between 6:30-7:30 am to wake me up, usually with kicks to the stomach. Yes, I have been unlucky to succumb to co-sleeping with my son. Before I continue, yes, I know co-sleeping has its risks and believe me, I have spent countless hours researching the topic. I have read the positives, negatives, but most importantly, how to practice safe co-sleeping. Pregnant Chicken is one of my favorites to visit for all of my baby needs.
So my son sleeps next to me, not in between me and my husband; I have a guard rail on the side of the bed; we only cover ourselves with a sheet (minimally); and no more pillow. I also go one step further and all a couple extra pillows to the floor, just in case. My son is also a little freak of nature. He has learned to sleep like a full blown adult – on side stomach, side, sideways, etc. But don’t be fooled, I am always alert and partly awake. Deep sleep or much sleep in general is no longer a part of my lifestyle.
PLAYTIME IN BED
7:30 - 8:00 AM
Once my son has decided he is done beating me for the morning, I open my eyes to see his smile. I reach over to my nightstand because like any mom should, I keep a basket of toys ready to entertain. This is when I also feed him his morning bottle, about 6 oz of formula and change his hefty night diaper filled with lots and lots of pee.
SKIN CARE, COFFEE AND CLEAN UP
8:00 - 9:00 AM
By 8:00 am we finally make our way out of the bed. I put my little munchkin in his formula 1 car (his walker) and we begin our day. As he pretends that he is moving 100 mph (his little feet don’t even reach the ground yet), I take the opportunity to do my morning skin care routine, fold up our bed and drink a much, much needed cup of coffee. My Keiurg was hands down the best investment I made in 2017 and it has yet to fail me!
My son is usually in his own little world in the morning. I hand him a teether snack and he can keep going and going. I normally pick up the entire back of our house in this hour; our room, bathrooms and our walk-in closet. We spend majority of our time in our living room and kitchen (it’s connected) so this doesn’t take much time.
My current favorite skin care brands of the moment: Sunday Riley, Olekhendrikson, Belief, and Sephora. Above are the products I use, but I will list them below for anyone interested.
- Olehenriksen Oil Control Cleanser
- Olehenriksen Oil Control Toner
- Olehenriksen Oil Control Hydrator
- Sunday Riley – Good Genes

- Sunday Riley – UFO Acne Treatment Face Oil
- Belief – Overnight Brightening Mask
- Sephora Exfoliating Wipes

9:00 - 9:30 AM
Moms need fuel too, so at 9:00 am I try to get some breakfast in my belly. Note: this does NOT always happen. Moms, you know what I am talking about. Sometimes this half hour blends into “skin care, coffee, and clean up” hour. But for the most part, I eat something. Lately I have been trying to cut my carbs, so I will whip up either a quick omelette with bacon (I’m a bacon addict), egg scramble, or stick to my Go-To Oatmeal Bowl.
Baby Breakfast Hour
9:30 - 10:30 AM
After I manage to shove some sort of nutrition into my face, it’s time for my son to eat. And he LOVES to eat. We spend about an hour eating and playing on his high chair, this is our time to connect in the morning before the rest of the day.
A typically menu for my son:
- 1 Egg (scrambled)
- Apples, Pears or Banana
- Yogurt Cup
- ½ piece of Toast
I also throw a few pieces of baby cereal on his tray for him to work on his pincher finger technique.
If he is done eating before 10:30 am, I let him play a little longer on his chair. This lets me clean up the kitchen and tidy up the living room. Every minute in my day is usually accounted for, it drives me bonkers, but I am surviving. Once my little angel is done chucking all his toys onto the ground, I take him to his room, clean him, change him, and begin our first nap of the day. By now the little bags under his eyes are kicking in and I know nappy time is a must! He gets those bags from me, a horrible gene passed down from my mom, ugh. Can you imagine being a 21 year old with bags, all the time. It was horrible. That was nearly a decade ago but I’m just saying.
Exciting - was it not? 🙂
But this is it! This is my morning! What happens after nap time varies soooo much. Some days we are lucky enough to have family days in the week; we get out to some errands; we work on some recipe development and/or fun baking; or we just stay in our jammies and mom catches up on her t.v time. I love those days.
Pretty normal for a first time 28 year old mom? I hope so! My life has changed so much in the past year, I think I am still partly in denial. Adjusting has been a process – check out my tips on transitioning into mommy life. Even reading this post has me reminiscing of my old life, but I also spend a lot of my time thinking of the future and all the fun trips we have ahead of us. ♥
Stay tuned – maybe I will share more of my exciting life!
